The pergola replaces an awning that demanded tedious yearly upkeep. Every fall, the fabric had to come down. And that fabric wore out fast in the sun.
The new build lasts far longer. It is closed on each side by sliding glass. Wind and mosquitoes stay outside. Upkeep comes down to almost nothing, and comfort follows.
